STOP THE VIOLENCE

Duration: 2018 – Ongoing

Donor: Fondazione Pro.Sa

Stop The Violence is ULEMU’s first project, established in April 2018 to prevent and respond to gender-based violence and child abuse in Kanyama compound. The project was created to provide accessible and comprehensive support to women and children experiencing violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Through a multidisciplinary team composed of four project officers, a psychotherapist, two nurses volunteers, coordinated by a coordinator, Stop The Violence offers free psychosocial support, legal guidance, case management, referrals, and accompaniment services to survivors. The team works closely with healthcare facilities, social welfare services, schools, and law enforcement agencies to ensure that survivors can safely access the protection and assistance they need.

A key component of the project is its strong community presence. Beyond direct support services, the team conducts regular awareness campaigns, community outreach activities, and educational sessions aimed at preventing violence, promoting child protection, and increasing knowledge of available support services. Through continuous engagement with community leaders, families, schools, and local institutions, the project helps create safer environments and encourages the reporting of abuse and violence.

Stop The Violence also carries out extensive follow-up activities throughout Kanyama and surrounding areas, ensuring that survivors receive ongoing support throughout their recovery process. This long-term approach helps reduce the risk of further harm while strengthening protection networks at both family and community levels. By combining prevention, protection, psychosocial support, and advocacy, the project seeks not only to respond to cases of violence but also to empower women and children to break cycles of abuse and rebuild their lives with dignity, safety, and hope.
