M.H.A.R.E. : MY HUSTLES ARE ACCESSIBILITY AND RIGHTS FOR EVERYONE

To strengthen access to justice and improve service delivery, ULEMU in partnership with Hlanaganisa, an organization from South Africa, has trained community paralegals, frontline staff, volunteers, healthcare workers, teachers, police officers, and community leaders on GBV prevention and response, child protection, disability inclusion, safeguarding, and survivor centred case management. The organisation also introduced sign language training for frontline service providers, significantly improving access to services for members of the deaf community. At community level, ULEMU has conducted continuous awareness campaigns through door-to door sensitization, public events, roadshows, schools, markets, churches, radio and television programmes, reaching thousands of people with key messages on GBV prevention, child protection, disability rights, and the importance of early reporting. The organisation has also carried out community-based research, needs assessments, and home visits to identify vulnerable individuals and strengthen referral pathways between communities and essential services. In addition, ULEMU has supported children with disabilities through educational and medical assessments, facilitating access to special schools, assistive devices, and social support services. Working in close collaboration with government institutions, hospitals, the Zambia Police Service, schools, social welfare services, and civil society organisations, ULEMU has built an integrated and inclusive response system that promotes access to justice, protection, healthcare, education, and long-term empowerment for survivors of violence while fostering safer and more inclusive communities.
